PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION IN RAINSCREEN CLADDING
AIM – Acoustic & Insulation Manufacturing has introduced a new CPD module for architects and specifi ers looking at cavity barriers in rainscreen cladding. The one-hour module covers Passive Fire Protection and the updated regulations that cover fi re cavity barriers, as well as exploring the use of other products fi xed to or part of facades. Designed to develop the knowledge and understanding of
architects and specifi ers, the module explains in which order and how products should be installed. It considers fi re testing and the difference between ‘Resistance’ to and ‘Reaction’ to Fire and the corresponding terminology. The use of barriers for achieving fi re compartmentation within the external wall is also examined with reference to Association of Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) advice. The CPD module draws on AIM’s 35 years’ experience in the design, manufacturing and testing of high-quality passive fi re insulation products and is presented by AIM’s specifi cation manager Simon Mayes. Simon has 20 years’ specifi cation experience in the construction industry working for manufacturers including British Gypsum, Saint Gobain Isover, Komfort, Cembrit, Siderise and Proteus Waterproofi ng liaising with architects, designers and main contractors regarding supply of fi re, acoustic and thermal products. The module is available either online or in person.
