To make an adjective plural in French, you usually add an -s to the end of the adjective, although you do not pronounce it: Le père est gentil

Adjectives ending in -x, -s or -z stay the same in the masculine plural: Mon copain est généreux


Mes copains sont généreux


Adjectives ending in -al change to -aux in the masuline plural: Il est brutal


Ils sont brutaux


If the adjective ends in -eau or -eu, add an -x to the end in the masculine plural: Il est beau


Ils sont beaux


Most adjectives in French go after the noun they describe. The following adjectives, however, are some of the ones that come before the noun:


Grand, petit, jeune, vieux, nouveau, ancien, bon, mauvais, excellent, beau, joli, gros, vrai, cher, propre, brave …


If placed after the noun, the meaning of these adjectives can change: C’est un homme grand


He’s a tall man


Mon ancienne maison My former house


C’est un grand homme He’s a great man


Ma maison ancienne My old house
