The original idea when writing À l’Attaque ! was to help students prepare for the Higher Level French Leaving Certificate, building their confidence as they gain the required proficiency in the language throughout Fifth and Sixth Year and providing them with the tools they need to succeed in the exam. À l’Attaque ! 2nd Edition is in keeping with this idea. In fact, it takes it further. It is modern


and innovative, and delivers interactive, experiential learning. It bridges the gap between Junior Cycle and the Leaving Certificate and encourages and supports students at every step. Throughout the textbook, students are asked to revisit what they have learned, to think about the skills they are using, and to push themselves and each other that little bit harder in order to reach their full potential. Covering all of the topics, skills, grammar points and vocabulary required to maximise


exam potential, À l’Attaque ! 2nd Edition is arranged in theme-based units, each divided into four separate chapters. Throughout each chapter there is a wide variety of engaging individual, pair and group activities covering all of the core language skills.

These activities include up-to-date and authentic journalistic and literary reading comprehensions, plenty of oral and aural practice, contemporary videos, and thought- provoking discussion and written exercises. Scaffolding of learning takes place in each chapter, enabling students of all abilities to


acquire the skills to deal with the complexity of the Higher Level French Leaving Certificate exam. On s’échauffe ! warm-up exercises ease students into each topic, and they are prepared for the more difficult tasks with a series of pre-reading and post-listening activities to maximise learning. The transcript of each listening activity is provided at the back of the book to reinforce the vocabulary, to help with pronunciation and to show grammar used in context. All of this is designed to encourage the students to keep moving forward! Aide panels throughout provide useful tips and helpful phrases and encourage students


to reflect on their own learning as they progress through the book. The Grammaire section at the end of each chapter simplifies the teaching of grammar


with clear explanations and lots of practice exercises. The Bilan du chapitre then tests the main points of the chapter, to consolidate the learning.
