REVISION QUESTIONS 1 What can we use to represent particles when drawing or making models of an atomic nature?
2 Why are models useful in science? 3 Give four examples of physical changes.
THE ATOMIC NATURE OF MATTER
4 Give four examples of chemical changes.
5 Imagine you had to explain the following quote to your friend who has missed a class on atomic theory. Explain what the quote means.
If, in some catastrophe, all of scientifi c knowledge was destroyed, and only one sentence was saved, what statement would contain the most information in the fewest words? I believe it is the atomic theory that all things are made of atoms—little particles that move around in perpetual motion. In that one sentence, there is an enormous amount of information about the world.
