during the evaluation of lubricant additives to ensure reliable and comparable results across different formulations.

Section B of the Code sets out the requirements for Test Sponsors, those who commission candidate lubricant test work with Test Laboratories for either themselves or their clients. Each year Test Sponsors are required to undertake an Annual Compliance and Audit process to ensure adherence to the Code. This process includes completing a series of self-analysis checklists and submitting a Letter of Intent to the European Registration Centre, or ERC.

The Letter of Intent confirms that all candidate lubricant engine testing with any of the engine test procedures listed in this Code, and carried out by Test Laboratories anywhere in the world, will be conducted under the conditions of the Code.

Similarly all reference lubricant engine testing for the prescribed methods will be conducted under the same conditions, thereby standardising both the method and the conditions under which testing is carried out. The list of additive companies submitting a Letter of Intent is updated annually and managed through ERC.

Any resulting issues that are identified in this process are referred to the ATC Quality Management Working Group, or QMWG, for resolution.

A list of Test Sponsors who have signed a Letter of Intent is available on the ATC website at https://atc-erc.org/docs/AnnualComplianceList/ ATCCodeofPracticeAnnualComplianceSummary. pdf

Compliance with the ATC Code of Practice by additive companies allows oil marketers to make informed choices about their technology providers and supports confident decision-making in the performance of an additive package through the way it has been developed and tested.

For End Users this provides assurance of the characteristics of the lubricant additive package and the performance of the final formulation in application.
