celebrates successful events and welcomes new members

Automechanika VLS (the Verification of Lubricant Specifications) made its exhibition debut at Automechanika, which took place at the NEC in Birmingham on 6-8th June and attracted 12,000 visitors from the UK and abroad.

The VLS stand was situated in Hall 18 alongside other associated lubricant companies including Morris Lubricants, Millers Oils, Mannol, Petronas, Kerax Group Auto and Sash Lubricants from Spain.

David Wright, Secretary of VLS and Director General of UKLA said: “We decided to invest in attending Automechanika this year to enable us to reach out to a wider audience beyond the lubricants sector. After analysing the visitor base for the show we knew it would be an effective place to target OEMs and the aftermarket, spreading the word about what VLS does and making new contacts. We were delighted to make so many new contacts as well as hand out copies of Lube magazine and our new consumer leaflet. We also opened up new avenues to spread the word about VLS through the Motor factors including Group Auto and Motoparts Direct.”

On the whole VLS was delighted with a successful first event.

effect of the step changes on the industry made by these sequence alterations. Dr. Suhair Abdelhalim, a Senior Lubricant Engineer from Ford Motor Company, presented the impact of the sequences from their OEM perspective. She highlighted the fact that the sequence changes are forced upon OEMs by tightening government legislation and increasing customer expectations. She clearly presented the heightened demands this puts lubricants under. She used examples such as improving fuel economy by increasing the temperature for combustion – which in turn creates water which dilutes the oil.

VLS Chairman Andrew Goddard commented: “We were delighted with the attendance at our ACEA sequences seminar. We hope this will be the first of a series of regular seminars and events from VLS to increase education and raise standards across our industry. The 2016 sequences provide a major change and it is vital we are all up to speed with it. I certainly gained real knowledge from the presentations as did the attendees that I spoke to.”

VLS welcomes new members VLS is delighted to welcome two new members, following a successful exhibition debut at automechanika Birmingham.

Alexander Duckham & Co Ltd are based in Batley, West Yorkshire. The company was originally founded in 1899 by Alexander Duckham himself who was a chemist, well known for the development of machine lubricants. The brand is now under new ownership and is looking to re-launch later this year.

Aslanol Ltd are based in Milton Keynes and were established in 2013. As a young but fast growing company they are exclusive distributors of Mannol and SCT spare parts to motor factors, retail shops, buying groups and regional distributors throughout the UK.

ACEA 2016 Sequences Seminar The ACEA 2016 sequences seminar took place on 7th July at the prestigious RAC Club in London. With high profile speakers, the seminar investigated the

Simon Gurney from BP Castrol discussed what the sequences mean with regard to formulations. As soon as the sequences are confirmed, all existing products are tested against the new sequences, with reformulations made where needed. The ongoing challenge is to provide lubricants that can work harder without adding cost. The 2016 sequences become mandatory for all new claims from 1st December 2017 so stock management is a key factor.

David Wright, Secretary of VLS and Director General of UKLA said: “We are delighted to welcome these new members to our lubricants industry initiative to bring transparency to the lubricant market place and protect and educate the end user. VLS now has nearly 30 members from across the lubricants industry and has investigated 49 cases since its inception in 2014.”
