‘The oil industry’s event of the year’ by Chris Parker

One year to plan, 36 hours to set up the exhibition space, 1,383m² of carpet rolled out, 32 oil tankers driven in and out, 1,200 canapés served... I could go on, but I think you get the idea. Planning and delivering FPS EXPO 2017 was no small feat.

The downstream oil industry’s premier trade show continues to grow year-on-year, and during two glorious days in May, the Exhibition Centre Liverpool – the Expo’s venue for the second time – played host to more than 130 exhibitors, with 1,850 delegates arriving from around the world.

The energetic Federation of Petroleum Suppliers (FPS) team worked tirelessly, from the entry of the first truck on Sunday morning, to the taking down of the last stand on Friday afternoon. I caught up with the driving force behind it all, the FPS events and marketing manager Dawn Shakespeare, on the first morning of the FPS EXPO, to find out more about the preparations, and the reaction of the first visitors.

“It’s been a long year. We’ve been planning since the last EXPO, and that was when we took most of our bookings. Tony (Brown) and I arrived on Sunday, and we started moving all the trucks in, so it has been a three-day build-up to get everything in.

“I have had really good feedback already. People have walked in and gone ‘wow, it looks like a different show to last year.’ The exhibitors have upped their game in many places, and all the stands look really impressive. People are now calling this the oil industry’s event of the year, and I have to say, I quite like that.”

The FPS EXPO brings together oil industry experts; software specialists; major truck manufacturers, such as Scania and Iveco; equipment manufacturers, and numerous other businesses which supply the downstream oil sector.

Importantly, it offers companies the unique opportunity to showcase a vast array of products to an engaged, industry- focused audience, as Adrian Beeby, the managing director
