“We have tested this product in labs all over the world in order to ensure that it performs as well as possible and meets all the required specifications. This has been a global team effort.”
Following the presentations, John Savage conducted attendees on a tour of the NFPC, showing us the types of equipment that hydraulic fluids are used in and the individual components that make up the larger machines. This tour both showcased the impressive facilities at the NFPC and also provided a useful visual and practical context in which relative laymen (such as myself) could put the information that had been provided in Shell’s presentations.
The 27th September may have marked the official UK launch of Shell Tellus S2 MX and S2 VX, however they have already been field tested globally, with testimonials from companies such as Clifford Jones indicating that the new products are a resounding success in the industry. “It would be unfair to pick out individuals for praise;” said Mark Draper.
Thinking of the future, Mark thinks more oil companies will also move towards producing hydraulic fluids that are able to operate in the more extreme parameters that S2 MX and S2 VX work in.
“New OEM specifications are not handed to blenders out of the blue. Typically, an OEM will draft a report regarding performance areas needing to be
reviewed which are then widely discussed with us and other blenders to see if what is being requested is possible. A movement in the market is more or less inevitable, but development of new oils is not a static process, and we are already working on designing the next product for our portfolio”.
