INDUSTRY VETERAN JOINS SRE AS DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION


The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers has announced the addition of Dr. Robert M. Gresham to fill the newly created headquarters staff position of Director of Education and Certification.

Dr. Gresham was most recently with the EM Corporation, where he served for 15 years in a variety of positions including his most recent as Vice President of Technology. EM is a leading manufacturer of applicator of solid film lubricants and related engineering coatings with world-wide sales and operations.


As an active member of STLE for the past 17 years, Gresham held a number of leadership positions and served as an instructor for the popular Basic Lubrication Course. His doctorate degree in Organic Chemistry is from Emory University, Atlanta. He is an award-winning author of more than 20 technical papers - the majority of which have been on solid film lubricants.


"Bob Gresham brings new strength and balance to our staff through his technical knowledge, business experience, computer proficiency, presentation skills and industry contacts,' said Edward Salek, STLE executive director. "We're confident that he'll be the catalyst for the implementation of STLE's ambitious growth plans for our a I ready successfu I techn ica I education program."


Gresham will work closely with the STLE Education Committee on course development


and presentation, and will serve as liaison to more than 20 technical committees and industry councils that represent the major producers and users of products and services related to tribology and lubrication . He'll also seek to increase industry awareness of the STLE Certified Lubrication Specialist TM (CLS TM) program and of the organisation's new Oil Monitoring Analyst (OMA) competency assessment programme.


"I look forward to working with the STLE leadership, committees and local sections to expand our education program beyond its traditional content and venues, to attract new audiences to courses both in North America and off shore, and to apply new technology that will make adult learning more interactive and accessible," said Gresham. "This initiative will be a key factor that enables STLE to meet its society and membership goals as we begin the next millennium."


Gresham's personal interests include horseback riding, sailing, gardening, and woodworking.

OIL & GAS MIX & MATCHII SAFETY TRAINING TO SUPPORT STEP CHANGE

An oil and gas " mix and match" health and safety training package has been launched by UK-based industry experts Callsafe Services Ltd to support the relaunch of Step Change for Safety.


Subjects range from Du-Pont Stop through to safety induction, confined space entry, abrasive wheels, and COSHH regulations. Training can be done both on and offshore.


Callsafe, which operates worldwide and has worked for BP Essogas and Shell Oil, boasts personnel with many years safety experience in the oil and gas industries. The company says it has recognised that many companies need tailor- made packages to suit their own requirements and Callsafe can mix and match any health and safety subject.


Managing director Bruce Calder said: "Training is a highly personalised activity which ultimately reflects the client's accident prevention culture and procedures. The offshore industry, like many others has an on-going need for expert help to cater for staff changes and new regulations as they are introduced."


Callsafe is also extending its audit and site inspection services, and risk assessment schemes and offers interqctive computer-based training design, a hotline, training aids, plus facilities for training trainers.
