Dawn McMillan and Ross Kinnaird’s I Need a New Bum!— immortalised by the picture book market’s most powerful influencer, vlogger The Scotish Granny—got the bum’s rush up the chart to fourth place. In either a weird coincidence, or as part of an off-colour trend, Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter’s 2015 title The Dinosaur who Pooped the Bed! rose back into the top 20. Here’s hoping it’s a flash in the pan.

Instagram cleaning star Mrs Hinch tops a chart for print titles pre- ordered before their release, with Hilary Mantel also faring well

T

he most pre-ordered print book in January was Mrs Hinch’s The Little Book of

Lists, according to Bookstat, with an estimated 4,680 copies bought ahead of publication. Bookstat compiles its charts by tracking the movement of print, e-book and audio titles on online retailers’ websites and calibrating against publisher-supplied data, providing an estimated sales figure. In 2019 five titles shifted more than 100,000 copies in their first week on sale, so the pre-order market has never been more important— and 2020’s biggest beasts on the horizon are jostling for space. It should come as no surprise

that Instagram cleanfluencer Sophie “ Mrs Hinch” Hinchliffe is sweeping the floor with pre- orders. Those 3.1 million Instagram followers come in handy—her début Hinch Yourself Happy shifted a whopping 160,302 copies in its first week on sale in April last year, and would have become the fastest-selling non-fiction title of all time, had Pinch of Nom not broken the record just a fortnight earlier. In October, Mrs Hinch: The Activity

Journal sold 81,651 copies in its launch week. Hinch's books went on to sell a combined 787,696 copies in total, upping her cleaning product budget by a tidy £5.4m. The Little Book of Lists isn’t out

until April, and will likely garner even more pre-orders in the next three months. After Mrs Hinch announced the publication of the book in late January, it rocketed up the chart.
