The Bestseller Charts Analysis
Fiction chart number one. This is Slaughter’s 12th weekly top spot in the category chart, and her third summer in a row to chart in the number one. Walliams and Ross dominated the Children’s & YA Fiction top 20, with Megamonster reigning atop the chart, and Fing, The Beast of Buckingham Palace and Code Name Bananas filling out the top 10. Without a Walliams release until late June this year, the

author’s usual backlist boost has been missing from the chart until now, but Megamonster seems to have rallied the troops. Elle McNicoll’s A Kind of Spark zipped into the Children’s & YA Fiction top 20 following its Waterstone Children’s Book Prize win last week, surging 1,155% in volume week on week. The prize’s 2019 winner, Onjali Q Raúf’s The Boy at the Back of the Class, also bounced back into the top 20.
A number of emerging writers have thrived in the period since bookshops reopened in March as restrictions were lifted
