The full-market TCM was flat from the previous week, with value sales at £29.9m. Though there is no year-on-year compari- son owing to 2021’s lockdown, the £29.9m is 29% up on the fourth week of January in 2020. Volume, meanwhile, rose 3.5% to 3.49 million copies sold.
Good Vibes, Good Life by Vex King was the top Personal Development title last year, leading a genre in a purple patch

A full-year picture would undoubtedly have exceeded 2019’s £45.2m record as Personal Development’s strong- est period tends to be the first quarter. However, at £14.7m the sub-category Self-Improvement: General did nab an all-time high, even when compared against full years. Though Popular Psychology (£15.3m) was actually the bigger sub-category, Self-Improvement: General bossed the upper echelons, responsible for nine of the top 13 titles. Instagram self-help guru Vex King was the star, with 2018’s Good Vibes, Good Life at the pole position and his 2021 follow-up, Healing is the New High, in fourth.
