the longest-running title in the category top spot since Hawkins’ The Girl on the Train, which chugged into the number one 29 times across 2016. Eagle-eyed chart page readers will recall that the hard- back of The Thursday Murder Club matched The Girl on the Train’s record for Original
Fiction number ones earlier this year, also at 29 weeks. However, the record for the longest stretch in the Mass- Market Fiction number one is near-insurmountable, with Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code on 62 weeks. Osman could be a victim of his own success in this regard, as The Man Who Died Twice’s paperback will be along to knock The Thursday Murder Club off the top long before it’s notched
up a further 45 weeks. Brown strategically waited six years aſter The Da Vinci Code’s publication to release follow-up The Lost Symbol.
