James was the last to chalk up the double with two separate titles in summer 2012, as both Fif Shades of Grey and Fif Shades Freed topped the chart with Fif Shades Darker as their runner-up. Suzanne Collins also doubled up with her Hunger Games trilogy just a fortnight before James did— once again, the film adaptation nudged its source material to the top of book charts. Perhaps Osman


will double up on the double when The Thursday Murder Club’s own film adaptation, reportedly in the works with Steven Spielberg at the helm, hits UK cinemas and/or streaming services.


Of course, Osman’s duology achieved a double- double of sorts last week, with both titles topping their respec- tive category charts for a second week. The Man Who Died Twice notched up a


second pole in Original Fiction, while The Thursday Murder Club reigned atop Mass-Market Fiction for an 18th week. It now outstrips Heather Morris’ The Tattooist of Auschwitz, which notched up 17 non-consecutive poles across late 2018 and early 2019, to become Continues overleaf 
