PINCH OF NOM Featuring easy-to-follow recipes, Kay Featherstone and Kate Allinson’s cookbook, origi- nally a blog with 1.5 million followers, has been a huge hit. The title was announced to the Pinch of Nom community on social media, generating more than 140,000 pre-orders. The book has sold over a million copies to date, and was the bestselling non-fiction book of 2019.

DISHOOM This love letter to Bombay comes out of one of Britain’s most talked-about restau- rants. Beyond the enticing recipes, the book is beautifully designed, with striking use of colour. The campaign utilised Dishoom’s cult following, but the book managed to break out of the foodie scene and transport the magic of the restaurant to home kitchens across the country.

THE BOOK YOU WISH YOUR PARENTS HAD READ The unusual tagline “a parent- ing book for people who don’t buy parenting books” turned out to be true. A high-profile campaign across podcasts and radio drew in an unexpected audience of people without children. Perry identified a gap in the parenting market: what leads to a good parent-child relationship? Turns out plenty of people want to know...

HINCH YOURSELF HAPPY Instagram star Mrs Hinch, a.k.a. Sophie Hinchcliffe, made publishing history when her début shifted 470,000 TCM copies and 75,000 non- trade sales. Focusing on her struggles with anxiety and how cleaning helps her, the title’s marketing was largely done through the author’s Instagram and, thanks to her army of fans, it was PRH’s most pre-ordered book ever.

VEG Said to be eight years in the making, Jamie Oliver’s latest cookbook was beautifully designed and featured his signature style: simple recipes using easy to find ingredients. Anticipating the migration to plant-based diets, Oliver’s book is all about veg. Once again, he went straight to the top of the charts and stayed there for three weeks, reaching total hardback sales of 419,000.

THE BOY, THE MOLE, THE FOX AND THE HORSE From a successful but rela- tively unknown artist came a beautifully illustrated book that, in its simplest form, is about friendship. Told through the conversations between the four titular friends, the high- spec début of Charlie Mackesy appealed to both adults and children, almost bagging the festive number one. It’s sold 460,000 copies to date.
