Academic, Educational & Professional Publisher of the Year

WINNER MATHS—NO PROBLEM!

From a shortlist packed with independent publishers across the academic, educational and professional sectors, it is the newest one of all, Maths—No Problem!, that scoops this award. The company is a prime example of how indie start-ups can flourish

in the niches of the education market. Inspired by the Singaporean style of maths learning, it has quickly established its books in UK schools and can already claim to have had a transformative impact on teaching methods and pupil results. Last year it beat off competition from far larger corporates to become the only UK publisher recommended by the Department for Education for primary schools’ mastery programme. That coup contributed to spectacular sales growth in 2017. Beyond

its publishing, symbiotic training events and conferences and an online teacher support hub have reinforced the Maths—No Problem! brand, and its impact has been replicated in many other territories, especially North America. The fact that many UK schools have been forced to slash book budgets in the past few years makes its success all the more remarkable. Maths—No Problem! adds this award to the title of Ingram Content

Group Independent Publisher of the Year at the IPG’s 2018 Independent Publishing Awards. The Bookseller’s panel of judges was hugely impressed by its "David and Goliath" story, and said: “This is a company with a singular vision and a lot of style. It was born out of a real need for its resources, and having spotted a gap in the UK schools market it has gone at it full pelt.” The judges added: “The retention rates and sales growth are hugely impressive. Maths—No Problem! is a small publisher making a massive impact.” Judges admired the strength in depth of independent publishing across

this shortlist. "There are a lot of distinctive and very well-run companies in these sectors—generalists as well as specialists."
