Export Award

WINNER COLLINS LEARNING

HarperCollins’ education powerhouse Collins Learning scoops this award after winning the category for companies with exports of more than £10m in 2018. It caps a five-year surge in export sales for the business, which has

used its many big education brands to build its reputation in major mar- kets including China and the US. But judges were impressed by the way it has moved into smaller territories too, including the Caribbean, and by the way it adjusts its content and strategies to suit local markets.

DK Sold to no fewer than 113 countries in 2018, including more than a dozen new ones, with the US, Australia and China the three biggest. The Big Ideas series proved particularly popular, and distribution and marketing support were excellent

HODDER EDUCATION GROUP Like Collins Learning, Hodder’s growing international sales have compensated for tough education markets at home.

WINNER WALKER BOOKS

Walker takes the side of the award dedicated to publishers with exports below £10m in 2018. While Brexit rumbled on, it had a very good year in established European markets like Germany and the Netherlands, and incorporated its UK, US and Australian export teams into its London HQ. Judges liked its proactive approach to exports, fusing the agility of an independent with the reputation and resources of a long-established brand, as well as its closeness to distributors, retailers and readers alike.
