ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Retail Sales

December 2017 retail sales totaled $51.0 million, an approximate increase of $3.5 million over December 2016 totals. Despite this monthly increase, year-end totals came to $565.5 million, a decrease from year-end 2016.

Building Permits

2017 ended with a total of 718 building permits valuing $32.5 million being issued by the City of Ardmore. The number of permits increased in 2017, however the value of permits remained steady.

Carter County Unemployment 903 persons, or 4.0% of the Carter County labor force, filed for unemployment in November 2017. This is a significant decrease in unemployment since the start of the year when approximately 5.1% of the labor force was unemployed. This trend is expected to continue as the overall economy remains robust.
