GETTING INTO THE SPIRIT OF THINGS
T
his month’s ERT has been brought to you by a combination of serious alcohol, good food and music – which, to be, fair, is pretty much the same as every issue, but this time around I managed to fi nd an excuse to indulge in them for legitimate work purposes, rather than just to get through the day… I recently visited the Spiritland Headphone Bar in London’s Mayfair –
a new type of luxury hi-fi retailing store, where customers can listen to premium audio products while sampling whisky (see pages 40-42). It’s a great approach – and not just because it involves drinking booze and listening to music… But let’s face it – what’s not to like? Owner Paul Noble – a former sound engineer – is passionate about
great audio, but also wants to give consumers a classy and relaxed retail experience, where they can try before they buy and not feel pressured into making a purchase. I was really impressed by the Headphone Bar – I

definitely think Paul’s found a niche and I wish him all the best with his latest venture…
As well as enjoying a combination of alcohol and music, I can often be found eating good food, but, I’ll be honest, I much prefer having it made for me, rather than being forced to prepare it myself. I think this was blatantly obvious to the team at food-prep brand Magimix, when I visited their UK offices a few weeks ago. I was there to do a one-to-one exclusive interview with MD Steve Punter (see pages 16-19), but, in order to get a better understanding of the company, I was invited to get ‘hands-on’ with one of its food processors. Being a good sport, I thought I’d better take them up on the offer. I’d never used a food processor before and I’d like to thank Christine
Sean with Magimix UK MD Steve Punter
Hudson, Magimix’s home economist and training manager, for being very patient with me, as I tried to get to grips with the product and make the recipes she’d prepared for me.
I was tasked with making lunch for myself and the Magimix team and, I’m pleased to say, with some great help and advice from Christine, I got there in the end, and no one went hungry, or complained about the food – well, not to my face, anyway… On a more serious note, thanks to Christine, I got to experience first- hand the versatility of the food processor and was better able to understand the benefits that it can offer consumers. Just like in the Spiritland Headphone Bar, having some quality time to interact with products, in a friendly and inviting environment, and getting the chance to speak to some knowledgeable staff, can make all the difference.
