Hedgehog rolls
This fun and simple recipe is a perfect introduction to breadmaking, and it tastes pretty good too!
You will need: • 500g brown bread mix • Plain flour for dusting • Raisins for decoration
Method 1. Make the bread mixture following the pack instructions. Leave the dough to rest for 5 mins, then knead for 5 mins.
2. Cut the dough into 6 pieces. Dust the surface with a little flour and let your little learners shape each piece into a ball before pulling one side out a little and squeezing it gently to make a snout.
3. Put the hedgehogs on a baking sheet, cover with a damp tea towel and leave to rise for 1 hour.
4. Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.
5. Using safety scissors, let your little ones carefully snip into the dough to make the spikes on the backs of the hedgehogs and then press raisins in above the snouts to make eyes. If you don’t want to use scissors, then flaked almonds pushed into the dough also make pretty good spines.
6. Bake for 15 mins or until the rolls are risen and golden. Will keep for two days in an airtight container.
