News Charterpoint starts work on new home

Developers have broken ground on a new 70-bed care home in Bingham, Nottinghamshire. Contractor Lawrence Baker has been appointed to build the new facility, which will be run by care operator HC-One. It will be the operator’s second care home in Bingham and one of more than 300 care homes operated by HC-One across the UK. The care home is being developed by Nottingham-based Charterpoint Senior Living, which specialises in developing care homes and retirement living schemes. Adrian Goose, chief executive, Charterpoint, says: “We are delighted to see work getting under way on site at our latest project. This is an attractive, bespoke scheme, which will offer first class, modern care facilities. “Charterpoint Senior Living is committed

to creating quality developments in excellent locations and we look forward to seeing this facility come to fruition to provide specialist care in the local community.” Mostly over two storeys, with one section

over three storeys, the care home is being built on a brownfield site on Grantham Road where there was previously a police station. It will feature resident lounges, a hair/beauty salon, cinema room and other extensive

communal facilities as well as gardens. Liz Whyte, managing director at

Darlington-based HC-One, says: “We are very pleased to be working with Charterpoint Senior Living and Alpha Real Capital on expanding our care provision in Bingham.

Smart sensor launched to

help fight Legionellainfection A pair of young entrepreneurs have developed a revolutionary smart sensor that will help to wage war on the deadly Legionellabug. Technology expert Florin Mangu and water hygiene engineer

Joe Finn are launching the Remote Tech 'S1' sensor via their Stevenage-based research and development company in response to the increase in the number of Legionellaoutbreaks in the UK. The device monitors water systems and sends an alert if conditions are rife for Legionella. This is of particular importance given the 43 per cent rise in confirmed cases in England and Wales between 2015 and 2018. The sensor makes use of 'internet of things' technology -

whereby an intelligent device is connected via the web and is able to communicate data. Joe Finn says: "Legionellais a potential killer that can lurk

within any water system. If it gets into your lungs it can cause Legionnaires’ disease, which is a virulent type of pneumonia. The young and elderly are particularly at risk. During a major outbreak, approximately one in 10 people who get Legionnaires’ disease will die." Florin Mangu says: "Our sensor is specifically designed for

Legionellaand it uses smart technology to detect any abnormalities in temperature. “Every two seconds the sensor checks for any changes within a

set threshold. We can use this data to provide a comprehensive record. It is designed to keep the public safe at all times."
