News Collaboration leads to new approach

Care Home Murals has recently finished installing a series of murals at St Luke’s Care Home in Caversham, part of B&M Care Group.

Kim Franks, the manager at St Luke’s, has clear ideas about the sort of wall imagery she believes works best for residents and her vision was to create a colourful, visual and tactile experience to provide not only a bright and refreshing environment for them to enjoy but also to encourage reminiscence about past family holidays. Michael Potter, director, Care Home

Murals, says: “Kim went to great lengths to discuss both her ideas and our proposals with her team and residents. She also monitors how residents engage with the murals, giving us valuable feedback to incorporate into each new commission for St Luke’s. “As a result, we determined that the mural

Sandstone Care Group

acquires three new homes The Sandstone Care Group has acquired three homes from Orchard Care Homes; Sandstone completed on a deal to take over the three homes in the North West of England in January. The homes are St Helens Hall and Lodge, Longridge Hall and Lodge and Fleetwood Hall. The acquisition by Sandstone follows the decision last year by

Orchard Care Homes to reduce its portfolio by around 25 per cent. Sandstone Care Group was established last year. Its three directors, Ben Challinor, James Parkin and Richard Shore, have over 50 years of combined experience working in the care industry. The company has also opened its first purpose-built care home

in Newtown, Powys. The 73-bed luxury nursing and residential home offers the highest quality care for older people, including those with dementia. James Parkin, one of Sandstone Care Group’s directors, says:

“We are excited to have been able to add three of Orchard’s homes to our portfolio. Orchard has a similar commitment to ourselves to provide residents with the best possible care within a vibrant community setting.” Co-director Ben Challinor adds: “We are passionate about

providing outstanding, resident-led services within a modern environment. Our vision is to rapidly develop a fantastic, unrivalled reputation for delivering exceptional standards of care.” The three homes are close to Sandstone Care Group’s head office in Birchwood, Warrington. All Orchard staff will transfer to Sandstone Care.

photographs, it allowed everyone to be involved creatively, with residents and staff being able to have input into the design, which was exciting.” The finished ‘Seaside’ mural has been a

great success, meeting all the necessary requirements as well as being well received by residents, staff and visitors.
