Design and innovation

management team and Hallmark used videos and multiple channels to encourage participation.

From there, three winning ideas were identified but there were many other good suggestions we hope to include at a later stage and look forward to implementing. This year’s winners included two from our Welsh region who have come up with a new way to manage safeguarding and a new way to enhance customer service, which will give Hallmark employees the confidence to manage feedback in a constructive and professional way.

The overall winner was from Savista Developments who came up with a unique bedroom design with additions that will improve the lives of residents living with dementia. Each of these winners will

shortly receive a prize of either £1,000 in cash, an iPad mini and an Apple Watch plus a trophy at a special presentation from Savista managing director and Hallmark chairman Avnish Goyal. Claire Johnsen’s top tips for encouraging innovation

l Build a strong network of people who can share and inspire. New ideas often result from conversations and observations with others. If you are looking for new ways to improve products and processes, it is likely your network will be a good starting point.

l Have a clear idea of where you are heading and types of innovation you need to help you on this journey. A focused approach will help you to reach the goals you aspire to.

l Be alert to changes in your market. 40

Keep a critical eye on changes in the market and assess opportunities to be acted upon or not.

l Keep your customer’s needs central to all decisions.

In the spirit of innovation and collaboration, we have an open-door policy at Hallmark and Savista and welcome your comments. If you have any questions, thoughts and ideas please contact me on claire.johnsen@savista.co.uk.
