News Championing Social Care gains independence
Having started life in 2018 as the Care Sector Fundraising Ball, Championing Social Care has now become an independent entity. Championing Social Care seeks to promote and unite the care sector with various programmes and shine a positive light on the 1.6 million-strong social care workforce. An application has been submitted to the Charity Commission for its registration as an independent charity.
In 2023, Championing Social Care raised almost £450,000 to support charities working in care through the Care Sector Fundraising Ball and the Care Sector Christmas Lunch. To date, it has raised over £1.2m. It also organises the hugely successful Care Home Open Week and Care Sector’s Got Talent. It has been incubated by the CareTech Foundation since its launch.
The first step in registering the new charity has been to set up a Company Limited By Guarantee. This will be followed by registration with the Charity Commission and the appointment of Trustees.
Avnish Goyal CBE, chair of Championing Social Care, said: “This is a really exciting move which shows how far we have come since Championing Social Care was formed. It has grown into a hugely successful project that aims to tell positive stories about the sector through its various initiatives. “We feel that the time is right to register Championing Social Care as a charity in its own right. Our aim is to expand its work and grow its impact even further. We’d like to thank the CareTech Foundation for hosting
the initiative up to now, and to thank all of our Patrons for their enthusiastic support.” Jonathan Freeman MBE, chief executive of
the CareTech Foundation, commented: “The Trustees of the CareTech Foundation are really enthusiastic about the new structure and the opportunities this development offers for the expansion of Championing Social Care as a stand-alone charity. There’s no doubt 2024 will be an important year for social care and championing the sector will be more important than ever.”
Aria Healthcare celebrates first anniversary
Award-winning Aria Healthcare Group is marking a successful first 12 months. Launched just over a year ago, Aria has since gone on to win the Large Care Home Group at the National Care Awards and has been named as one of
carehome.co.uk’s top 20 care home groups. The group has achieved several benchmarks in staff retention and development, with feedback from its 2,700
colleagues providing the basis for its ever- evolving ethos, vision, and values. Over the past year, Aria Care has reduced its labour staff turnover rate by half and has increased wages, benefits, and annual leave, showing its commitment to being a National Living Wage employer. Aria has invested £18m in a revival project for its homes, with major refurbishments carried out in 12 homes in 2023 and plans for
more in 2024. A primary focus of the re- investment has been to create both indoor and outdoor spaces that are aesthetically pleasing and functional for both residents and colleagues. Aria Care Group CEO Caroline Roberts said: “It’s hard to believe that Aria launched just over a year ago. The past 12 months have seen a remarkable transformation for us and there is still so much more we want to achieve.
“We are incredibly proud of the positive
impact we’ve already made on the lives of the people we care for and our colleagues. We are committed to building on this momentum and making Aria the leading choice for exceptional care and hospitality in the years to come.
“Ultimately our priority has and will
always be the wellbeing of our residents and colleagues. We want everyone in our communities to feel safe, listened to, valued and, ultimately, happy that they are living the best version of their lives.”
