News Korian enters negotiations to acquire Berkley Care Group


French care home giant Korian is set to enter the UK market with the imminent acquisition of London-based luxury developer Berkley Care Group. Berkley Care consists of six modern and purpose-built facilities across southern and south-west England and the Midlands, representing a total accommodation of 425 beds. Korian, which earned revenues of almost


€4 billion in 2020, said it expects Berkley Care revenues to total around £25m in 2021. The value of the acquisition was not disclosed. The Berkley Care facilities have


consistently impressed in the care industry and two homes have been awarded the highest ‘Outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission, it added. Korian has entered into exclusive


negotiations to acquire the Berkley Care, with the acquisition is expected to close in the coming weeks. The acquisition includes the real estate of


five of the six Berkley Care homes. “The Berkley care group has always been committed to offering the very best level


of service to its residents and we know that Korian shares the same commitment and values and will be able to continue to develop the Group in line with its potential,” said Berkley Care founder Seamus Halton. Korian said the UK market is growing


rapidly with the over-85s population expected to double between 2020 and 2040 and dependency to reach 36 per cent of the population by 2040. In this growing market there is an expected deficit in the number of nursing home beds of

Construction outfit Stepnell has completed the build-out of a £12m luxury care and retirement village in Solihull for Cinnamon Care Collection. Eastcote Park will open its doors to


residents next month, providing residential and respite care, as well as a dedicated community for those living with dementia. The two-storey build features a


50-bedroom care home and two additional apartment blocks that house 34 two-bedroom

18 months. “As a former brownfield site, the land provided several practical challenges for us - such as surface water issues - as it is surrounded by countryside,” said Stepnell regional director Adrian Barnes. “We also had the added pressure of


lockdown for a large chunk of the build, requiring us to adhere to government guidelines to ensure that we could stay on site to deliver the project on time and on budget,” he added. Stepnell will kick off construction on


another Cinnamon Care Collection care home, in Stourbridge, in the coming weeks.

Maria Mallaband on track to open Great Malvern home in June


Maria Mallaband Care Group is on track to complete construction of its £8m Windsor Court development in Great Malvern in Worcestershire in June. Alongside 51 ensuite rooms, Windsor


Court will feature lounges, restaurants and other communal areas including bistro and bar, hair salon, and eight- seat cinema that will be open to the community. The new care home will also


create jobs for up to 75 members of staff, including carers, nurses and administrators.
