with fish, birds, crabs and other species becoming tangled in them and attracting larger animals like dolphins and whales, which can also become trapped. They can also damage sea beds and coral reefs by becoming snagged, or causing shade from sunlight, limiting the nutrients available to them.
In order to create the material, damaged or unwanted fishing nets are collected and turned into recycled polymer powder. This recycling process prevents the nets reaching our oceans and harming sealife, and reduces the carbon footprint of products made using the recycled polymer. In the case of the Ryno dining chair, this results in a 23% reduction in energy required to manufacture each chair, and a 16% reduction in carbon emissions attributed to the product.
Recent Ryno applications Let us now focus on a couple of recent real-life applications of Pineapple’s Ryno furniture products
l Peter Hodgkinson Centre, Lincoln In June 2023, two state-of-the-art mental health wards opened at the Peter Hodgkinson Centre at Lincoln County Hospital, enabling Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to broaden its scope and offer invaluable care and support to adults needing mental health crisis support. The wards were designed with close input from service-users, carers, staff, and students, who used their lived experiences to help select colours, furniture, and room layouts. The Trust needed secure furniture
for a secure courtyard space, and found products from the Ryno range to be well suited to outdoor use. The items’ single- piece design makes the products totally water-resistant, and the UV-stabilised material helps to provide dependable long-term durability. Ryno Club chairs and Pedestal tables
were selected to provide safe and versatile furniture for eating, socialising, and activities. The pedestal tables were securely fixed to the floor using fixing methods which are hidden and totally

inaccessible, to protect patients and staff from harm. Rather than being fixed to the floor, the Club chairs were weighted to 62 kg, to allow them to be repositioned without compromising safety. The Club chair, distinguished by its sloped arm and curved back design, was chosen for its reduced-ligature design, helping to create a safer environment for patients. Ryno benches (also securely fixed
to the floor using inaccessible brackets) provide a relaxed seating option under a covered area, further adding to the versatility of the space, and enhancing the patient experience. Combining an inspiring aesthetic with an emphasis on safety and comfort, Ryno products can help to create environments that promote wellbeing and recovery.
