SECURITY AND SAFETY

the fire safety credentials of the building within which it is installed.

Safety and style combined These visually-led products are complemented by a range of products designed with safety and style in mind. The hugely popular wood effect anti- ligature 1000BH handrail greatly reduces ligature opportunities, and, as a result, is the only handrail to be accepted by New York State Office of Mental Health (NYSOMH) under its stringent requirements. It is products like this that exemplify the successful partnership between Inpro and Intastop which has seen Inpro products brought to the UK by Intastop since 2017. The two businesses’ closely aligned

business values – of protecting buildings and the people who use them – have seen the partnership flourish, and high- calibre projects delivered across the UK, where Intastop and Inpro products have provided tailor-made solutions for customers, including in healthcare. In addition to being installed in a wide

range of mental health sector settings – thanks to our holistic approach as a business to safety and style, Intastop products are also utilised successfully in dementia care settings to provide a homely, calming environment where the highest levels of care and reassurance can be given, all while keeping those under the care of experienced healthcare professionals safe.

Promoting independent movement Products such as grab and hand rails promote independent movement around care facilities, while utilising door and wall sheet to protect building infrastructure not only aids ongoing maintenance, but also helps achieve the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control. Working within the mental health

sector, and combining the highest fire safety credentials into products, is, of course, incredibly ‘niche’ and specialised. Intastop has been one of the market- leaders in this sector for over 30 years, and continues to pioneer the latest products to protect buildings and those that use them.

Phil Barsby and Intastop

Intastop is based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and has provided door and wall protective products, along with anti- ligature and access, seals, and acoustic products, to a variety of market areas for over 30 years. Its key market sectors are Healthcare, Education, Retail, Laboratories, and Kitchens.

Phil Barsby, director of Business Development, has been with the company for over 27 years, having started out as Logistics and IT coordinator. He has been instrumental in Intastop’s strategic direction, resulting in the company becoming a leading name in the anti-ligature, door, and wall protection market. He is also director and Finance lead on the Board of the Design in Mental Health Network, the leading force behind INFORMED CHOICES – ‘the New Testing Standard for Safety’, and the global testing method for all products used in mental health.

Following Intastop’s expansion and move to larger premises in Spring 2023, Phil and his team will continue driving forward with the company’s main founding principle of delivering exceptional customer service, while addressing the needs of a changing sector, and environmental demands, via a programme of product enhancement and development.

It is a good understanding of, and appreciation, of what is required from both a compliance and an aesthetic perspective that ensures that buildings are safe for users, and protected to promote longevity and high standards of cleanliness, and reduce maintenance

Our latest product to be brought to market is an upgraded removal doorstop, which provides a heavy-duty option alongside its tried and tested counterparts which have delivered operational success for years. The knowledge that Intastop has within the mental healthcare sector is considerable, and our team of experts can be called upon to offer advice and product specification to achieve the necessary standards. It is a good understanding of, and appreciation, of what is required – from both a compliance and an aesthetic perspective – that ensures that buildings are safe for users, and protected to promote longevity and high standards of cleanliness, and reduce maintenance.

Driving innovation and collaboration This is why Intastop continues to drive forward innovation and collaboration within the sector, and why it places huge emphasis on shows such as the annual Design in Mental Health conference and exhibition. At this year’s event, we showcased our anti-ligature SECURA solutions for doorsets and ligature reduction handrails range, highlighting this pivotal product portfolio that offers products to help keep both staff and service-users safe. It is this commitment to driving

forward innovation and bringing the best products to the UK market that saw Intastop recently relocate its business from Doncaster to new premises in a new business park on the outskirts of Pontefract in South Kirkby. The new facility has positioned the business to continue its product development, and retain its well-respected credentials as a designer,

manufacturer, and provider, of products designed to support the mental healthcare sector and fire safety.

New site ‘matched plans for growth’ Intastop MD, Steve Woodhead, said of the move: “The time had come to find something that matched our plans for growth over the next 10 years, and this new site came with new opportunities and potential. The new location has improved production space, facilities, and parking, and provides excellent access and egress for our transport fleet. It will allow us to extend our product portfolio, improve the services we offer, expand our production capacity, and continue to invest in new equipment to deliver our business objectives. In the coming months, additional personnel will be recruited to support the increase in production, and a new training and innovation centre will be created to enhance the customer experience and document the story behind the Intastop business, its values, and the markets in which it operates.” Steve Woodhead added: “We have been manufacturing products for over 30 years, and the past 12 months have been incredibly busy, with new product innovations and large-scale projects coming in. It was important to us to continue delivering on our customers’ expectations whilst making this transition. We knew there would be a lot of hard work involved in moving from our 12000 ft2

premises to a new 20,000 ft2

base, but our teams have delivered the results, and made this move a success, through their determination, perseverance, and teamwork. It has been a real success story.”
