Project of the Year – Refurbishment The evening’s seventh award, for Project of the Year – Refurbishment, sponsored by Troup Bywaters + Anders, saw FWP Highly Commended for creating ‘an inspiring new home for CAMHS’ in the centre of Stockport for Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. The new Stopford House facility includes 18 themed therapy rooms, an ‘exciting reception far detached from the typical CAMHS or hospital environment’, open plan office areas for collaborative working, and ‘meeting spaces catering for both current and future ways of working and consultations’. The entry said: “This amazing new CAMHS facility will help children on their journey to recovery from numerous mental health conditions – such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, self-harm, ADHD, ASD, and others.” The winner in this category was Stella’s

a fully renovated three-storey post and beam former candy factory, originally constructed in 1912. Serving young adults aged 16 to 29, Stella’s Place fosters a sense of community through a welcoming, fully accessible space featuring a contemporary café, one-on-one counselling rooms, group rooms, a teaching kitchen, and staff workspaces.

Product Innovation of the Year

Original warehouse’s ‘industrial character’ expressed “The industrial character of the original warehouse is expressed through exposed brick walls and heavy timber framing, playfully contrasted with thoughtful, modern interventions. Inspired by the participants and staff, who expressed a need for both visual and physical connection throughout, new, strategically placed, double-height spaces create interconnectivity between existing floors while enhancing daylight access. These interventions allow for unobtrusive staff observation from the entrance to the welcoming café and suspended group room, as well as the new public stair, which links participant-accessed floors. What makes this project so innovative was its co- design by a young adult consultant team together with Stella’s Place participants, peer counsellors, and staff. Consultants from all disciplines were supported with mentorship from senior architecture and engineering staff.” The award was presented by Naddy Parperi from TB + A. The judges’ comments included: ‘Fresh vibrant, natural materials, non-stigmatising; I love it.’ ‘Excellent scheme encouraging use through design.’

Product Innovation of the Year The eighth and penultimate award, for Product Innovation of the Year, saw Yewdale Highly Commended for its K2500 Reduced-Ligature Fixed Curtain Track. Yewdale said: “Mental health Trusts utilise this product because standard anti-ligature blinds can be removed from their load-release brackets and used as a weapon. The K2500 Curtain Track fits flush to the wall, preventing it from being removed and used inappropriately. Pin hex anti-tamper security screws are secured into countersunk fixing holes at 150 mm intervals to provide a tight fit to the wall or ceiling.”

Reducing suicide risks from door hinges or handles Safehinge Primera’s Suregrip Ligature- Safe Handle won it the 2023 award in this category. The company says 50% of suicides are attempted using ligature points below an inpatient’s head, often with door hinges or handles. This anti-
