International Women’s Day Spotlight

explains, is to “save lives by pioneering innovative and safe medical devices that enhance patient care, improve outcomes, and make healthcare more accessible.”

Why does diversity matter in the HealthTech landscape? “Diversity is vital to addressing the critical needs of underserved groups, such as women and minorities,” Nathalie continues. She points out that recent data highlights the UK’s significant gender health gap, where women live with ill health or disability three years longer than men on average. “This inequity stems partly from

underinvestment in women’s HealthTech, yet targeted investments can yield remarkable economic and healthcare benefits,” she asserts. Alisa also believes that diversity must be a

core value in HealthTech. She states: “Female professionals bring unique perspectives that drive innovation, particularly in areas like FemTech. Their leadership ensures solutions are inclusive and meet the diverse needs of patients, ultimately improving health outcomes for all.”

How can we encourage the next generation of women in HealthTech? Nathalie points out that to inspire women, we need to amplify the achievements of female leaders, expand access to STEM education, and create scholarships for women: “Removing biases in funding and investment is essential to drive targeted solutions that address women’s health challenges.” Alisa emphasises that encouraging women in HealthTech requires robust networks, support for female-led startups, and a commitment to fostering inclusivity – pointing out that these initiatives will “empower women, strengthen innovation, and enhance the global impact of HealthTech.”

ABHI’s Gender Equality in HealthTech campaign Jane Lewis, ABHI’s Chief Operating Officer, has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at addressing health inequalities and championing gender equality within the

HealthTech sector. In 2025, ABHI launched its Health Inequalities & Women’s Health Group, a key initiative designed to tackle inequities, particularly in women’s health, and promote equitable access to healthcare. “Our purpose with this group is to act

as a convener for change,” explains Jane. “By raising awareness of health inequalities and women’s health issues, we aim to create a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and action. It is not just about identifying challenges – it is about empowering our members to be part of the solution. Together, we can amplify these messages and ensure they lead to meaningful change,” she explains. Jane’s leadership in ABHI’s Gender Equality in HealthTech campaign also highlights the importance of representation, data transparency, and systemic improvements across the industry. ABHI’s recent gender equality report captured insights from across the HealthTech sector, revealing key challenges such as balancing work-life commitments, combatting imposter syndrome, and addressing biases in leadership pathways. “The data we gathered underscores the critical

role diversity plays - not just as a moral imperative but as a driver of innovation and economic success,” adds Jane. “By tracking progress annually, we can ensure our industry remains accountable and committed to fostering a culture where everyone, regardless of background, can thrive.” Looking ahead, Jane and ABHI are focused on bridging the gaps in women’s health research, ensuring equitable representation in clinical trials, and addressing barriers that disproportionately affect women in the workplace. “ Representation matters,” Jane concludes. “Together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to lead by example and create a HealthTech sector that truly serves everyone.” For further reading, download ABHI’s
