Ensuring high standards in ultrasound decontamination
Nanosonics has over 32,450 trophon® 2 devices installed
globally, protecting over 106,000 patients each day, equating to over 26 million patients each year. As part of its commitment to patient safety, the company is also promoting best practice in decontamination of ultrasound probes through a programme of education.
As part of Nanosonics’ healthcare professional educational programme, the company is running complimentary CPD-accredited study days, designed to help improve the safety of patients, clinics, their staff, and the environment. Delegates engage, discuss, question and network with expert speakers and other like- minded people during these educational events. Nanosonics has invited guest expert speakers
from across different specialties involved in ultrasound reprocessing, such as ultrasound, decontamination, and infection prevention. The workshops are developed by the Nanosonics Medical Affairs and Clinical Application teams, providing hands-on experiences in all aspects of reprocessing of ultrasound probes. Learning objectives include:
l Recognise the importance of education and training in decontamination
l Understand the sonographer’s perspective of ultrasound reprocessing.
l Discover how to implement an IP toolkit and improvements that can be made from audit results
l Explore the benefits of using an automated system for High Level Disinfection (HLD) of transvaginal probes
l Learn about the importance of cleaning and best practices and evaluate products used
l Learn how well established and safe chemistry is used in a closed, automated HLD device to ensure safety of staff and patients
l Recognise the importance of cleaning and disinfectant product compatibility with probes
l Attending the practical workshops will explore probe care during pre-cleaning and disinfection of ultrasound probes, and the full process of reprocessing from dirty to clean probes

Nanosonics has recruited over 70 members in a Superuser network where users of the trophon technology can avail of ongoing education and share experiences with other facilities. This is open to all hospitals.
Who would benefit from attending one of our study days? Any healthcare professional who uses ultrasound in their clinical work or involved within the decontamination and infection prevention space, such as Infection Prevention practitioners, Decontamination leads and Sonographers.
