EUROPEAN TEXTILES ENTER THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY ERA AT ECOMONDO 2026
The European textile sector is undergoing profound transformation, driven by new regulations and rules that are shifting attention from the management of products at end of life to their design, production, distribution, collection, sorting, reuse and recycling. This evolution will increasingly require greater integration among all the actors involved in the system. The introduction of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes is also making it increasingly necessary to structure value chains capable of managing growing volumes of textile waste while simultaneously improving the quality of recovered materials.
The global textile community will find a key meeting point at Ecomondo 2026, the Italian Exhibition Group event dedicated to the green, blue and circular economy, whose 29th edition will take place at Rimini Expo Centre in Italy from 3 to 6 November.
A NEW HALL FOR THE TEXTILE VALUE CHAIN
For the first time, Ecomondo 2026 will dedicated an entire exhibition hall to Textile – the most significant new feature of its layout. The area will be entirely devoted to innovation and circularity across the value chain, bringing companies, technologies and expertise together and addressing the sector’s most topical issues, from ecodesign to the collection and sorting of textile waste, treatment and recycling, second-hand markets and regulatory developments. The aim is to create a dedicated environment in which the different components of the value chain can meet and exchange expertise.
The new Textile sector will form an international hub, supported by European associations such as EURIC
From 3 to 6 November at Rimini Expo Centre in Italy, the IEG event dedicated to the green, blue and circular economy will focus on the textile value chain, with a new exhibition hall and an international conference programme
and EURATEX, as well as Italian consortia and specialist associations. Ecomondo is also working with leading associations in European countries including Spain, Portugal, the UK, France and Bulgaria, as well as Bangladesh, to host highly profiled international buyer delegations to encourage dialogue between companies and international stakeholders involved in the sustainable and circular transformation of the sector.
THE CONFERENCE PROGRAMME
The role of textiles in the new European circular economy will be among the themes at the heart of Ecomondo’s conference programme, defined by its International Scientific Technical Committee, as well as the focus of a dedicated programme developed by Ecomondo’s Textile Working Group.
The working group contributes to the development of meetings, conferences and workshops addressing the main issues affecting the textile value chain.
Among the English-language events scheduled are “Reuse, repair and eco- design. The heroes of “magic” circles of Circular Economy in the textile sector” and “ESPR and Digital Product Passport in textiles: traceability and transparency along the value chain”, the latter organised by Ecomondo’s Scientific Technical Committee in collaboration with AISEC.
At Ecomondo 2026, textiles will therefore become one of the key areas through which to interpret circularity: not a static industry, but an integrated value chain bringing together regulation, technological innovation, material management and new business models.
