The facility can sort around 30,000 tonnes of plastics per year using Steinert’s Intelligent Object Identifier AI-based technology, which enabled sorting practices that consider additional material proper- ties that can be identified visually. Steinert’s Intelligent Object Identifier combines a colour sensor and NIR sensor with hyperspectral imaging technology, which allows for a process that yields uniform, pure-grade plastics through highly efficient sorting. The technology allowed for sorting previously not possible using conventional processes. One example is the separation of silicone cartridges from the desired polymer material, which could contaminate a PE plastic fraction to the point that it is unusable.
