TECHNOLOGY | SORTING

Compact+ and Mistral+ Connect use the company’s new Flow Detection system which improves the separation of different grades of material such as PET. Flow Detection combines a new spectrometer with an extended NIR/VIS spectrum and focused illumination, enabling the recovery of waste to high levels of purity. As an example, it can achieve fine separation between clear and light blue PET. Compact+ is available in two configurations (conveyor or gantry) and features a control cabinet fitted with a large screen to improve the human- machine interface. Pivoting reflectors are also provided to facilitate the ease and safety of maintenance operations, while its design also helps to minimise maintenance costs. Compact+ also achieves low energy consumption by reducing its air consumption by up to 30% compared to prior ranges of machines. The option of offsetting the control cabinet and the ability to modularly assemble the machine on site allows for easy retrofit in a plant. Pellenc ST also joined forces with global sorting technology group Bühler to offer the industry a complete front and back-end solution for plastic

bottle and flake sorting. The partnership aims to accelerate the circular economy by using their complementary portfolios, according to Lawrence Kuhn, Global Segment Head, Plastics, Bühler Digital Technologies. For Bühler, the partnership includes its Sortex N

PolyVision flake polymer sorter that detects non-PET polymer contaminants, including PVC, PA, PE, PMMA, POM, PP, PS and SAN as well as foreign materials including rubber, silicone and residual- coloured flakes, at rates up to 6 tonnes/hr. The portfolio also includes Bühler’s Sortex A GlowVision all-in-one optical flake sorter, designed with its GlowVision technology for superior colour sorting, foreign matter removal, polymer sorting and reducing loose labels. Pellenc ST brings into the partnership an international reach of 2,500 ma- chines installed globally and operating in more than 40 countries, and a substantial optical sorting presence, the company says. Pellenc ST specialises in plastic bottle sorting which complements the Bühler products to bring the most complete PET recycling solutions to the market, say the partners. Steinert joined forces with RE Plano, a German plastics business subsidiary of global recycling firm
