New from BioRegion Technology (BRT) is a high-density pellet version of its TruBlack bio- based, IR reflective pigment that can be sorted via NIR. The pigment is 100% bio-based carbon made from lignocellulosic biomass from agricultural waste. BRT has recently worked with Entek to coat the pigment micro-powders with a polymer to create a high-density pellet that reduces dust during handling. The latest from Techmer PM is HiTerra NIR Black, which has been indepen- dently verified for sortability, the company reported. The colorant is available for PE, PP, and PET formulations. AF-Color’s AF-Carbon PE 950811 NIR black is a PE-based masterbatch without carbon black. This black masterbatch can be used to adjust a range of colour formulations while maintaining NIR sortability. A special effects master-
batch portfolio from Ampacet, the Earthen Clay Collection, is
suitable for multilayer polyethylene blow moulding and extrusion, for applications such as personal care, hair care and beauty packaging as well as home and garden products. Because the muted matte outer layer is PE-based, it will not be viewed as a contaminant in the recycling stream, unlike other matting agents or layers that are not PE- based, the company said. The Earthen Clay Collection muted matte hues evoke the natural colours and textures of clay pottery and are available in six colourways: Clay-Fired Red,

PCR-based masterbatch The latest from AF-Color is a series of colour masterbatches based on PCR LDPE with high colour-strength pigments that overcome the challenge of fluctuating base colour in PCR. For applications that do not require NIR sortation, AF-CirColor PE 950934 black PCR incorporates high colour-strength carbon black, which provides consistent and cost-efficient colouring. For applica- tions that require NIR detection, the company developed AF-CirColor PE 950934 NIR black PCR, a carbon black-free black masterbatch based on PCR-LDPE. This grade maintains colour intensity and processability while remaining NIR-detectable, enabling efficient sorting and recycling. Other PCR-based colour masterbatches include
blue, green, silver, white, and brown. The company and its Germany-based partners, PCR-supplier Saperatec and container manufacturer Palbo, recently received an award from the German Packaging Institute for containers made with 50% PCR polyethylene (PCR-PE) and 50% high-density polyethylene (HDPE), from recycled beverage cartons, coloured with AF-Color PCR master- batches in blue, black and silver. “The development of this
