life cutter knives can be adjusted to maintain cutter clearance. The unit is controlled through a stan- dalone electrical control panel with Siemens PLC, O’Connell said.
New generation Untha launched a new generation of its RS class of 4-shaft shredders which are specifically engineered for shredding various plastics materials such as PET bottles, packaging materials, films, production waste and automotive interior panels. It also handles a wide range of non-plastic materials such as metals, rubber waste, carboard and workshop waste among them. The company, which highlights a 50-year span
of pioneering innovation in the field of 4-shaft shredders, said the newest generation extends its experience in innovative technology development. The new generation shredder is available in five models including the RS30, RS40, RS50, RS60 and RS100.
Untha says the RS line is modular in concept,
operating speeds, torque, cutting unit apertures, cutters, perforated screens and sealing variants, which can be individually assembled depending on customer requirements. The high-throughput unit is particularly attractive for multi-shift opera- tions and integration into existing plants. The RS series features a very compact yet rugged design that is especially resistant to foreign objects. According to the company if a cutting disc hits a foreign object, the machine stops immediately to prevent damage to the shredder cutters. At the same time, the reliable drive permits frequent reversing which is particularly beneficial when shredding problematic materials. The RS series is designed for process stability and low noise operation with minimal dust emissions, the company said. The RS series also features an integrated
perforated screen quick-change system as stand- ard, which permits rapid and efficient changing of the screen and guarantees ease of operation. Feed opening dimensions range from 1,230 by 700 mm for the RS50 to 1,500 by 1,020 mm for the RS100 unit. Fraction sizes, based on the screen, range from 15 to 100 mm.
“Our aim is to continuously develop shredders
that already achieve outstanding performance,” said Peter Streinik, Head of Global Sales and Business Development. He said that the new RS class is characterised by significantly lower operat- ing costs with even more user-friendliness, easier maintenance, and thus higher productivity. a few years ago, handles heavy duty applications that require throughputs up to 6,000 kg. The unit, designed for dry or wet size reduction, features a 600 mm diameter ESW 45 K rotor that can be equipped with variable knife configurations and screw-on armor plating. A row of stator knives can be enhanced with an optional second row for special applications. Other features of the EWS 60/120 unit include a
material pusher in the shape of a swing arm, a hydraulically hingeable screen support, and easy access to the screen for changing or maintenance via a double wing door with an inspection glass. The belt drive system and countershaft gear are designed to prevent failure, offering optimum protection against destruction caused by foreign bodies. A high centrifugal mass of pulleys provides energy savings in case of peak loads, the company said. Variation in operating speeds is easy to implement. Options include a double drive, to obtain higher torque, and overload coupling. Weima has reported on success with its customer
Plastic Recycling, which is using a WLK 18 Jumbo shredder at a facility in Cowpens, South Carolina, occupying 64,075 square feet which the recycler opened in 2021. The unit, which is shredding purging, has a 180 hp motor, V-rotor technology with a 500 mm diameter rotor and three rows of knives, plus a hydraulic lift-up screen for easy maintenance. The machine has 8,000-10,000 lbs/hr capacity.
