TECHNOLOGY | SHREDDERS
The design of the machine permits optimum accessibility to the cutting chamber of the grinder, rotor, and granulator knives, ensuring fast cleaning of the grinding mill when changing the product while also significantly reducing maintenance downtime. Material is charged to the shredder section by
means of a mechanical ram pusher. The design of the horizontal feed channel is adaptable and can be adjusted in length. “Channel lengths up to 6 m pose no problem for profiles and pipes of standard length,” the company said. The design of the inlet area ensures that sheets of any thickness can be comminuted without issue. Material can be fed to the unit continually or in a batch, Vill said. The Polyplex PPC 50/120 is designed with a
single fixed speed AC-type motor and belt drive that power both the shredder and the granulator, Vill said. The rotors for each operation are of different diameter and rotate at different speed although they are on the same shaft, Vill said. The cutting knives in the granulator are arranged in a staggered pattern and able to downsize a wide range of materials. The company has sold several Polyplex PPC units
in Europe since launching the machine in 2018 but has continually expanded its capabilities. It recently created new cutting knife designs and says current customised designs can process, for example, 500 kg/hr of PA or 800 kg/hr of PP. Hosokawa Polymer Systems currently has three additional installations planned in the US and quoted two machines for order during the NPE show.
Integration Recycling technology supplier Genox USA said at NPE 2024 that it has launched a new machine series that integrates its V series single-shaft shredder with a variation of its GC series of

high-speed granulators. According to Corey O’Donnell, Vice President, the new GCV series is a better integrated unit compared to prior systems ordered by customers with a Genox shredder mounted atop the granulator. The integrated concept yields better output with
increased control. The GVC series will offer throughput ranging from 200 to 1,000 lbs/hr. The shredder and granulator operations of the combi- nation unit will operate using similar principles and cutting designs from the individual models, O’Connell said. This includes a smart control to monitor and operate the ram feeder on the shredder. The GCV series is offered in three models, which includes the GCV400, GVC600 and GVC800. The smallest model features a hopper opening that is 15.7 by 15.7 inches where the shredder is de- signed with a 6.7 inch diameter rotor and 15.7 inch shredder length and can rotate at 90 rpm. It is designed with 13+2 shredding rotating knives and 13+2 shredding counter knives and has a 1-inch shredding screen. The granulator has a 10.7 inch rotation diameter and rotation speed of 550 rpm. The granulator has six rotor knives and one row of counter knives, with all units in the product line having the same number of rotor and counter knives. The largest model in the series, the GCV800, is upsized with a 55.1 by 59.1 inch hopper opening. Shredder operation includes a shredder rotor diameter of 15 inches and shredding operation length of 31.5 inches. The unit has a top rotating speed of 60 rpm. The shredder has 35 + 4 rotating knives and four rows of shredding counter knives, the company said. The granulator portion of the largest unit has a rotor diameter of 12.6 inches and operates at a top rotation speed of 450 rpm. The granulator has a 0.5 inch diameter screen, which is the same for all models in the line. Genox also plans to expand its J series of pipe
shredders at the end of the year with a new J2000 model joining its existing J800 and J1200 units. The series is designed for large diameter pipes, corrugated pipe, and rolled feed stocks as well as bins, containers, and crates. The number of rotors in the multi-rotor design can be specified accord- ing to the material type and material size. Different models are configured to size-reduce
carpet, artificial grass, and industrial reels. Features of the J series include a feed chamber auto-lock system to ensure safety, a high-strength hydraulic cylinder with reinforced support frame and adjustable speed ram and a large feed with hydraulic tipper to optimise material loading. Long
