Right: Hellweg has extended the options for its Smart Control unit
interfering with the ram mechanism. Scrap is shredded by means of a single-shaft 8.7-inch diameter steel rotor that cuts against a fixed blade knife. The blade and rotor are drop-forged from 4140 high-alloy steel for maximum durability. The rotor is equipped with four-sided, indexable cutting knives that can be unbolted and rotated to provide extended service before sharpening is required. The GP 924 has 24 cutting knives while the GP 935 model has 35 cutting knives as standard. The shredder also has a fixed blade knife or anvil that has dual cutting edges, so it can be unbolted and flipped 180 degrees for extended service. The size reduced material flows through a filter screen into a hopper area at the bottom of the machine. The overall operation of the shredder, including
the ram direction and speed, are controlled through a PLC controller accessed through a colour touchscreen HMI and a master power switch. The HMI offers access to a series of config- urable shredding programs as well as onboard alarms that alert operators to changing operational conditions. The GP series also includes complete electromechanical safety mechanisms that disable shredder operation during maintenance access until all equipment access points are properly closed and secured.
Hellweg-Maschinenbau, in a joint develop- ment with German extrusion machinery manufac- turer Breyer, developed a new edge trimming system for extruded foil webs. The R 200/20 Servo unit takes over the pre-shredding of one or two strips, which are then fed to a cutting mill for further processing. The unit, which supplements the range of

systems of this type from Hellweg, is equipped with a servo geared motor which enables the operator to freely select the cutting cycle times and cutting frequency via the touch display. Operators can specify the length of the respective edge trim sections at a constant cutting speed. Hellweg also extended the options for its Smart
Control unit, which is available for its entire range of granulators. A new hardware module stores the power consumption of the respective device over the long term and makes it available for evaluation. It also brings the possibility of displaying current energy peaks and provides the basis for optimising energy use. The software now offers the option of regulating the mill speed incrementally, giving the user even more flexibility in precisely optimising their system. A new security element, added to the Secure+ package of the controller, detects im- pending overload conditions of the mill based on the motor current and torque. It counteracts the effect so that rotor blockages can be avoided. Hellweg also announced a new central lubrica- tion unit with Bluetooth data transmission as an option for all central mills sized from its 260 series and up. Relevant operating data is transmitted to the operator via the Bluetooth interface, such as battery voltage, temperature, the quantity of lubricant delivered and the interval between the last pump stroke, operating time, and number of pump strokes. An integrated, active reporting system gives the operator the opportunity to detect irregularities at an early stage. Hellweg also offers a refill service for lubricant cartridges.
