Erema sees demand increasing for machines and solutions

Erema, the Austria-based manufac- turer of plastics recycling technol- ogy, has a growing presence in the North American market, reflected in its participation at the Plastics Recycling World Expo in Cleveland. Martin Baumann, Erema VP Sales in North America, talks to us about the company’s success in a dynamic market. “The plastics industry is undergo- ing a significant shift, and more than ever circular business models are not just talked about but executed. At the Erema Group we see this trend reflected in record levels of system shipments, increased by 16% in 2018/19 compared to the previous year. A total of 6,000 Erema plastics recycling machines are now operating in over 100 countries around the world,” says Baumann. “Demand is up in all three recycling markets: post-consumer (contami-

nated and used plastics), in-house and industrial (clean production waste), and bottle recycling (PET, food-contact-grade). In the latter case, incoming orders almost tripled compared to previous years. This can be attributed to the high demand for proven Vacurema technology and new processes based on it, such as the flakes-to-preforms Xtreme Renew

System developed together with Sipa. The bottle-to-bottle system Vacunite, which was first launched in November 2018, is also making its mark. “The most challenging segment, post-consumer plastic recycling, doubled again in shipments over the past three years. Public aware- ness with respect to plastic pollution and legislative action is spurring investment in this segment. Especially in post-consumer applications does Erema excel, with years of experience and technologies such as the Intar- ema TVE plus, Laser Filter and Refresher to address the specific challenges of this segment.” Baumann says that Erema is

expanding its headquarters in Ansfelden/Linz in Austria in order to keep up with future demand for the group’s technology. www.erema.com
