APR awards four companies in 2019 innovation showcase
The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) recognised four new innovations as part of the 2019 APR Plastics Recycling Showcase held during the 2019 Plastics Recycling Confer- ence in National Harbor, Maryland, US, in March. The four innovations which were recognised for their commitment to the growth of plastics recycling were: n Circular Polymers’ polymers from carpet recycled with the Rotary Impact Separator
n SKC’s washable ink shrink sleeve on Colgate’s Palmolive Oxy dishwash bottles
n MCC’s deseaming shrink sleeve labels on Vitafusion MultiVites
n PolyOne’s SmartHeat RHC: next generation reheat technology for PET bottles The Showcase was developed to highlight
and promote innovations that have a positive impact on plastics collection and recycling, with a focus on recently commercialised innovations

developed by APR member companies. “Innovation in packaging design and recycling technol- ogy continue to drive the growth of plastics recycling,” said John Standish, APR’s Technical Director. “These and other innovations are particularly critical at a time when recyclers are dealing with a tremen- dous evolution in packaging design and the evolving ton of material in the recycling stream.” Steve Alexander, President of APR, said: “As plastic packaging continues to come under attack, it is innovations like these that exemplify how the recycling industry is continually working to address the issues of sustainability, and to reinforce the message that recycling is the key to plastic packaging and container sustainability.
