Canadian outfit makes US move

Gould Industries, a recycled plastics proces- sor based in Montreal, Canada, has acquired a factory in Mississippi, marking the company’s first foray into the US. “We are bucking the industry trend,” said Frederico Panetta, President and owner of Gould Industries. “Many Canadian companies are coming under American control, but Gould is going in the opposite direction by acquiring an American company to expand its operations and strengthen our presence across the continent.” The 93,000m² Missis- sippi plant is located in a major industrial and commercial corridor, and will source its plastic exclusively from the US to foster a continent-wide integrated circular economy approach. The plant is to be modernised over the coming months. www.industriesgould.com

Tomra joins in PPWR plea to EU legislators

In a letter sent to the European Commission, European Parliament, and European Council, a coalition of more than 120 businesses and industry associations including Tomra, Eastman, PureCycle, GreenDot, and Alpla, have called on the EU to ensure that the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) delivers on its core objectives. “We join numerous

leading companies through- out Europe in stressing the importance of the EU ensuring the timely and effective implementation of this regulation,” said Tomra President and CEO Tove Andersen. “With the PPWR set to be fully applicable throughout Europe as of 12 August 2026, the focus should now be on ensuring that the regulation is effectively implemented, notably through the development of clear, robust, and evidence-based secondary legislation.”

The groups stressed that a stable and predictable regulatory framework is essential for maintaining investor confidence and supporting the continued development of recycling capacity across Europe. Secondary legislation is emphasised as the appro- priate mechanism to refine methodologies, definitions and requirements in line with technological progress and market realities, allowing outstanding technical questions to be addressed without reopen-

ing the core framework. The letter states that in the

current global context of geopolitical tensions, evolving international trade measures, and increased cost pressures on energy and raw materials, there is significant strain on Euro- pean industry. This makes it important for the EU to maintain momentum and regulatory certainty, it said, in order to further strengthen competitiveness and sustain continued investment in circular business models. www.tomra.com

IMG creates Portuguese innovation hub

Backed by €15m in financing from C2 Capital Partners, IMG Group has launched its Everbio Innovation Hub to bridge the gap between laboratory innovation and industrial-scale production. Located at the group’s industrial site

in Portalegre, Portugal, the hub brings together the capabilities of Evertis (PET-based packaging films), Selenis (specialty copolyester resins), Renascis (advanced multilayer recycling) and

Renewis (renewable energy) to develop, test, and mature the next gen- eration of recycled and bio-based polymer materials and technologies. “Everbio is a hub where our poly-

mer, packaging, recycling and renew- able energy companies bring the circu- lar economy from concept to industrial scale,” said Manuel Matos Gil, Presi- dent of IMG Group. “We are proving across polymers, packaging, recycling, and renewable energy, that circular

materials at industrial scale are no longer a future ambition.” The hub’s inaugural technology,

PerPETuity, is a solvent-free process that transforms complex multilayer plastics into PET flakes of greater than 99.9% purity to be used primarily in sensitive industries like food and healthcare. The integrated approach it favours extends across the entire value chain. www.evertis.com
