WASHING AND DRYING | TECHNOLOGY

decision to invest in a second system. The new line is designed with the same core

process layout and throughput parameters as the existing line, ensuring reliable scalability and operational consistency, and features key technolo- gies such as forced feeding granulators, hot wash system in batch design, and Hydrocyclone density separation. However, while the overall configura- tion of the new washing line corresponds with the proven design of the first plant, selected process modules have been optimised based on opera- tional experience and variations in input material composition. A further improvement is the increase in pre-sorting capacity to 8.0 tonnes/hr. To achieve this, Herbold is supplying a debaler and a washing drum that integrates both wet and dry sections into a single machine. Indian preform and plastic packaging manufac-

turer Magpet Polymers has also commissioned Herbold Meckesheim to provide another PET bottle washing line. The granulators and an initial washing line have already successfully commenced operation, with the new washing line increasing PET washing capacity by a factor of 2 to 2.5. “The system solutions and expertise of Herbold Mecke- sheim and Coperion meet our requirements exactly [and] at the same time, we can increase recycling rates,” said Indroneel Goho, Magpet President and CEO.

Expanding market The unique socio-economic structure of India’s waste ecosystem combined with its hyper-competi- tive recycling market means that most waste in the country is managed through a decentralised, labour-heavy, and cost-driven framework where effective washing and drying is crucial. At Plast India in February, Erema and Lindner Washtech officially announced the launch of their Erema India business. The joint sales and service subsidiary is the partners’ response to growing demand for high-quality recycling solutions in India’s rapidly expanding market, and will allow both companies to strengthen their presence in a swiftly evolving market. “With Erema India, we are creating the frame- work to support our customers even more precise- ly,” said Manfred Hackl, CEO of the Erema Group. “The close interaction between local presence and combined system expertise is the key to accompa- nying the Indian market in its rapid development.” India’s population of 1.47bn and the expansion of the middle class are two factors that continue to drive demand for consumer goods. According to the OECD, plastic consumption in India is expected to increase more than fivefold between 2019 and

2060. To address the resulting volumes in waste, the country has introduced ambitious circular economy goals. Stricter EPR regulations and the expansion of collection and sorting systems further increase the

importance of plastics recycling. In the bottle-to-bot- tle sector alone, around 25 recycling plants with a total capacity of approximately 600,000 tonnes are expected to be installed by the end of 2026. “The combination of regulatory tailwinds and

increasing quality requirements makes India a strategically important growth market,” said Christoph Wöss, Global Sales Director at Erema. “Over the past two years, we have seen in bottle-to- bottle recycling how quickly implementation progresses once the regulatory framework is set. The next steps, including mandatory recycling quotas for all plastic packaging that will gradually increase to 60% by 2029, offer enormous potential, especially in the post-consumer sector.” The new subsidiary operates at two locations. A

site in Vadodara, Gujarat, is home to a sales office and customer centre where trials and material tests can be conducted under realistic conditions. A ReadyMac HD recycling machine with Erema Laserfilter and various laboratory equipment will be made available in the near future. There is an additional office in Mumbai, ensuring customer proximity and support in western and southern India.
