Traceability of recycled content to be certified in Europe


European plastics recycling platform RecyClass has said EU Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification will be fully operational in the third quarter of 2020. This follows successful trial audits at packaging pro- ducer facilities: Aqua d’Or in Denmark, Resilux in Bel- gium, Armando-Alvarez and Klöckner Pentaplast in Spain, and Colpack in Italy. “The certification’s goal is to account for traceability of recycled content in new plastic products which are placed on the EU market,” said RecyClass. “This, in turn,


will allow for a transparent and responsible communica- tion on recycled plastics use.” It said the Recycled


Plastics Traceability Certifi- cation: Audit Scheme is based on the ISO interna- tional standard on chain of


custody, as well as the European standard on plastics traceability. Gian de Belder, Chair-


man of the RecyClass advisory board, said: “The certification will enable a reliable declaration of


recycled content, boost consumers’ credibility in product’s quality, and verify its responsible production.” RecyClass, continuing its work on improving design of plastics packaging for recycling, has welcomed Recoup, Suez Circpack, Plastship, Circular Analytics, Aimplas, Veolia PET Ger- many and Redilo as certifica- tion bodies for companies applying the RecyClass methodology.
