Technical plastics recycler Axion Recycling has been sold to S Norton & Co in the UK. Axion runs its ELV and WEEE plastics recycling operation from two plants in the Manchester area, with primary sorting taking place at Trafford Park and polymer refining and extrusion at Salford. his role as Marketing Director. Freegard has made an amicable agreement with the new shareholders to continue working on key projects and areas where his experience and knowledge can provide most benefit,

under a part-time consul- tancy agreement for the next 12 months. Freegard said: “This change in ownership further strengthens the long-term sustainability of the ‘grave- to-cradle’ business model

Tetrapak polycomposite to be recycled at plant in Italy

A patented recycled material called Ecoallene, derived from polyethylene-alumini- um composite in Tetrapak packaging, is set to be produced for the first time in Italy from September. The PE and aluminium materials are agglomerated in the process to create Ecoallene, which is said to be easy to colour and

contains some aluminium particles that make it slightly glittered. Recycling technology

group Amut has been developing the production project with Italian start-up Ecoplasteam, the company which holds licences for Ecoallene. Ecoplasteam is planning to recycle 7,000

tpa of the waste material. Amut said it has devel- oped technology for waste treatment and washing and the extrusion line to turn the final material into pellets. The plant receives commin- gled bales from the paper mill after undergoing a process for TetraPak cellu- lose recovery. The material is processed and treated through progressive phases and washed to reduce the presence of paper fibres. Once cleaned, it is mixed by a gravimetric dosing system, filtrated, granulated by the extrusion line and bagged. Ecoallene can be extrud- ed or injection moulded. www.amutgroup.com www.ecoplasteam.com

that S Norton and Axion can deliver for UK industry and I am sure that growth in product output and new business developments will continue at a similar pace.” www.axiongroup.co.ukwww.s-norton.com

LDPE testing

standard Plastic Recyclers Europe and VKC-CENTEXBEL have completed charac- terisation of recycled LDPE pellets to provide a standard for quality testing. The results enabled elaborating of best available techniques to determine recycled LDPE quality. These techniques are included in the characterisation document. “Clear and transparent

standards give greater confidence in the value of recyclates and thus enhance demand for recycled plastic,” said Ton Emans, PRE President. www.plasticsrecyclers.eu
