Plastic packaging is sorted by grade at Saubermacher’s plant in Graz Puntigam, Austria
Saubermacher invests to expand sorting plant
Saubermacher has opened Austria’s largest waste plastic packaging sorting plant in Graz Puntigam, says Redwave, which supplied NIR optical sorting technol- ogy for the expansion. Around €2m was invested in the project at the plant expansion, which has received more than €10m from Saubermacher over the last few years. Saubermacher sorts 32,000 tpa packaging waste at the plant on behalf of Altstoff Recycling Austria. Most of the waste comes
from households and businesses, with glass, paper and residual waste ending up in the yellow bin or bag in Austria’s collection system, said Redwave. “In Styria, the missorted material accounts for around 23%. In this plant, the Redwave sorting machines, which rely on sensor-based sorting using near-infrared and colour detection technology, separate the plastic packag- ing by grade.” The new equipment includes a bag ripper which works in conjunction with a
film separator to improve separation of the film fraction from the 3D fraction. In addition, one of the existing Redwave sorting machines has been upgraded and installed at the end of the sorting line to separate the tetra packag- ing from the aluminium fraction. A new sorting machine separates PET from other plastics. Redwave also installed its newly devel- oped “bottle flattener” near to the 2D / 3D separators.

Winco in US buys Lindner regrinding line
Winco Plastics in the US has enhanced its output following installa- tion of new equipment from Lindner, says the Austrian technology group. The Lindner regrinding line installed at Winco’s plant in North Aurora, Illinois, includes a Micromat 2500 pre-shredding system and a grinder, which handles HDPE pipes, HDPE sheets, PE and PP purge, and PC sheet as well as PET, mainly from post-indus- trial sources such as automotive and other sectors. Tim Martin, President of Winco Plastics, said the ability of the
regrinding line to handle material of various shapes and sizes, including pipes up to 8 feet long, was a major reason for selecting Lindner. He said the line was achieving output of 4,000 to 6,000 lb/h of ½-inch regrind material.
