Yizumi Germany, the subsidiary of the Chinese injection moulding machin- ery producer, is moving to new premises with offices, a technical centre, a show- room and an assembly area in the Alsdorf industrial region near Aachen, in June. This follows strong growth since the company began with an office at Aachen in early 2018. It expects to increase sales to €10m this year from €3.5m last year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Yizumi said that there are
two main drivers for the move: to introduce new products and technologies, such as the equipment for the SpaceA extrusion-based additive process and thixomoulding machines for lightweight magnesium components; and to expand its Foam Pro and React Pro processes for foam injection moulding and “polyure- thane plus injection mould- ing” respectively. Earlier in May, Yizumi
reached a milestone in the construction of its Yizumi Global Innovative Centre at
Wusha Shunde, close to the port of Guangzhou in China’s Guangdong province, when the roof was sealed. The project, which began in October 2019, will be completed in 2021. The project covers a new technology testing centre for application technology research, testing of new equipment and related new products, plus third-party joint project research testing, mould testing, low-volume production and technical training.

Ineos Olefins & Polymers USA is donating enough PP for office furniture group Herman Miller to make 20,000 medical face shields. These are being distributed by Herman Miller and Herman Miller Cares, its private foundation and corporate giving pro- gramme in Michigan. Tooling was completed in mid-May and the first batch of shields delivered to Holland Hospital and Mercy Health soon after. Six other medical centres in San Diego, Grand Rapids, Detroit and Grand Haven are also scheduled to receive donations. All of the components are 100% recyclable and reus- able, once cleaned after initial use.

Engel and Hack develop Covid-19 swabs
Engel and mould maker Hack Formen- bau have created what they describe as “an integrated system solution and process technology consulting” that is targeted at helping plastics processors to launch high-volume production of two-component test swabs for Covid-19 with short lead times.
Hack originally developed the two-component design, comprising a stable thermo- plastic handle and a head made of a thermoplastic elastomer, with the aim of making the examination less uncom- fortable for patients. It can also adapt the handle

length and shape, the design of the swab head and the materials. “The development objective is to combine high product quality with high-volume output and great cost-

effectiveness,” the two firms said. “With a 32-cavity mould and a cycle time of six to eight seconds, processors can achieve an output of up to 320 test swabs/minute and 460,000 test swabs/ day with a single production unit.” Engel adapted the production
process to the mould Hack developed. It runs on a tiebarless, hydraulic, two-component Victory injection moulding machine, equipped with iQ weight control and featuring an integrated Viper linear robot for fully automated removal and depositing of the swabs.
