THERMOFORMING | MACHINERY

Fast and efficient: what’s new in thermoforming

Recent developments in thermoforming include an AI vision system for automated in-line inspection, one for R-PET tray production and a machine to mass-produce cups and capsules

As with other forms of plastics production equip- ment, thermoforming machinery is evolving to become faster and more flexible – and with superior energy efficiency. Kiefel displayed a number of its thermoforming machines at NPE, including its new KMD 90.1 Premium machine. The KMD 90.1 Premium steel rule cutting machine has benefits such as its performance and process control, as well as a customised configura- tion with down-stacking and pick and place stack- ing. It allows efficient production of various types of thermoformed polymer packaging including trays, containers, lids and technical packaging.

“This technology stands out due to its compat- ibility with standard tooling, benefiting customers by allowing existing tools – such as the Sencorp 2500 series – to be easily integrated through a simple adaptation process”, said Armin Dietrich, global director of the polymer packaging division at Kiefel.

In addition, the KMD 90.1 Premium offers a

faster, ergonomic, automated tool change in a unique tool block, taking only 1.5 hours. This facilitates film switching between production runs and increases machine utilization. Kiefel will also preview its latest tilting machine, the Speedformer KTR 6.2 for mass production of
