Film M&As reached a high at end of 2025
Mergers and acquisitions in film reached a high in December 2025 according to PMCF, a consultancy that tracks M&A deals. It says there were eight film-related
deals in December – the most of any month that year. A notable example was Soteria’s planned takeover of Imaf- lex (which has since been completed). PMCF tracked 34 transactions in December, one fewer than the 2025 monthly average. In 2025 as a whole, there was a 4% year-on-year increase in deal announcements – the third consecutive year of increased activity. Strategic buyers drove volume,
accounting for 65% of activity in December and 55% of activity in the year, it said.
Despite only eight domestic (ie,
US) transactions in December, deals of this type represented 36% of all volume.
Both domestic and foreign
transaction volume rose in 2025 as cross-border activity fell, which was probably caused by uncertain trade policy early in the year, it said. “Coming off a strong Q4, plastics
M&A has substantial positive momen- tum heading into 2026,” said PMCF.

Inteplast acquires STA to expand into coating
US film extruder Inteplast has ac- quired Tennessee-based adhesive tapes and coatings company STA. STA Coated Technologies, with its 40 employees, will become part of Inteplast’s BOPP films unit within its AmTopp division – which will expand the division’s capabilities into custom coatings. The BOPP films division has four other locations in South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee and Quebec, Canada.
Homer Hsieh, president of Am-
Topp, said the expansion will optimise the BOPP unit’s portfolio. “Inteplast BOPP is dedicated to
expanding its product innovation and material research to meet evolving market demands,” according to Hsieh. “Adding STA’s capabilities and capacity will further enhance our existing offerings.” Will Smith, current COO of STA, will continue to be part of its leader- ship team. He said that joining Inteplast would allow continued

development of its products for the packaging industry. “Inteplast’s strong market position,
operational capabilities and commit- ment to growth align with STA’s strategic objectives,” he said. The purchase of STA adds to
several acquisitions that Inteplast made last year. In September, the company
bought Texas-based custom film and laminates manufacturer Reef Indus- tries, whose products include barrier tape, agricultural covers and tarpau- lins. In August, it bought Con-Pearl – which makes polypropylene twin-wall boards at sites in Germany and the US.
And last July, it acquired Germany- based technical film producer Perga, whose products are used for sheets, bags and packaging. Perga employed around 200 people at its site in Walldürn, Germany.
