EXTRUDER OF THE MONTH

Soleno Head office:

President: Founded:

Ownership: Employees: Profile:

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada Alain Poirier 1977

Private Around 500

Soleno was founded in 1977 as a manufacturer of drainage products. It now manufactures a range of related products, including HDPE pipe, culverts, catch basins and manholes, surface drainage systems, treatment systems (such as filters and hydrodynamic separators) and specialised products such as ventilation pipes – and even a fish weir and a beaver barrier. The company also makes steel pipes.

Product lines:

The main part of the company’s business is its pipe products. These are for residential, agricultural and infrastructure applications. An example is its Solflo and Solflo Max pipes, for drainage applications. In addition, its Kustomflo pipe – made using technology from Krah of Germany – can be produced in high diameters, with customisation of features such as wall thickness, stiffness and profile selection. Its Tripleflo pipe is made from three interconnected layers of HDPE, for high rigidity and corrosion resistance.

Factory locations:

The company has 13 sites across North America – all on the eastern side. For instance, its McAdam, Nouveau-Brunswick site specialises in large diameter pipes. Its Bluewater Pipe subsidiary in Ontario makes drainage pipe, while it has a plant in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu that processes recycled materials. The company recently opened its first US-based plant, at a site in Saratoga County in New York state, which will initially focus on Kustomflo pipes. The 45,000 sq ft facility could be expanded by another 25,000 sq ft in future, if needed.
