degradation occurs during processing, light stabilisers are more effective and long-term weatherability in the finished part is improved, Gacek said.
Italian chemical company Sabo announced in
June that Omya would become the authorised distributor of Sabo’s polymer additives in Brazil, Argentina and Colombia, in addition to the existing collaboration in Mexico. The portfolio includes UV protection, anti-fogging, and anti-static additives. “Latin America is a strategic region for Sabo, and we see significant potential for future growth across the market,” said Alberto Vischetti, Chief Operating Officer of Sabo International Americas, in the press release.
Cable compounds Stabilisation is even more important today due to a growing emphasis on lower defects in various applications, said Shawn Cook, Sales Manager for Plastic Additives at Dover Chemical, in a presenta- tion at AMI’s Polymers in Cables event in Cleveland, US, in June. Thermal stability and long-term durability are increasingly important in cable systems, he added. Doverphos LGP-12, a polymeric phosphite stabiliser for LLDPE, HDPE, PP and other thermo- plastics, was originally targeted for film applica- tions and is also available for use in wire and cable. It protects against oxidative and thermal degrada- tion during processing and use and helps maintain melt flow stability. It reduces gels and provides processing aid-like benefits, without PFAS, through improved melt flow behaviour and cleaner extru- sion performance, said Cook. LGP-12 is available in
masterbatch formulations through Benvic. OKA-Tec has introduced novel heat stabilisers
for crosslinked-PE halogen-free flame retardant (XL-HFFR) cable compounds. In a high-temperature thermal ageing study of XL-HFFR compounds used in photovoltaic cable jacketing, Okabest PAT 615 demonstrated higher elongation at break retention at higher temperatures (above 165° C) compared to a standard stabilisation package, reported Peter Jan Peters, Managing Director for OKA-Tec, in a presentation at AMI’s Polymers in Cables event. Another new product, Okabest SQ, provides
anti-scorching and processing stability for XL-HFFR cable compounds, he said in the presentation. The additive can be used at low dosage because it is highly efficient. It protects against gel formation during silane grafting and provides a broader processing window. Brüggemann has expanded beyond additives for polyamides and into heat stabilisers for cross- linked PE compounds. Bruggolen TP-H2431 is a long-term heat stabiliser for applications in T3 and T4 cables, supplied in pellet form. It is suitable for E-beam and Sioplas applications, the company said.
