A medical device produced in Comptek PEEK blend

coloured and performance compound and masterbatches for demanding applications, in poly- mers including PEEK, PEI and fluoropolymers, and has a strong niche customer base in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. A spokesperson for PolyOne said Comptek is now
integrated into its Colorant Chromatics business and the company intends to use its global footprint to introduce the company’s specialty materials to customers in other geographical markets. At Fakuma, it showed a number of re-usable medical devices produced in a special Comptek PEEK blend that is claimed to offer a 40°C higher glass transition temperature, more uniform post-moulded shrinkage, and easier colouring than standard PEEK grades. PolyOne also used the show to present some of
its latest application examples. These included a small appliance casing in ABS developed for a

RadiciGroup, a leading producer of PA polymers, used Fakuma to launch its expansion into the polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) arena with the introduction of its Raditeck P family. Erico Spini, Marketing Manager Europe Perfor- mance Plastics, said the new products were created as part of RadiciGroup’s strategy of expanding its speciality products portfolio. “A wider choice of available materials allows us to better support our customers, specifically in their projects involving innovation and metal replacement,” he says. Spini said the new PPS products will be targeted
predominantly at automotive applications that require tight tolerances, high dimensional stability (an Achilles’ heel of polyamides owing to their water absorption) and exceptional resistance to chemicals and high heat. The company also has electrical and electronic
applications in its sights, where the inherent flame resistance of PPS and its ability to be injection moulded into very thin wall sections will be an advantage. A third area is water management, an increasingly attractive focus area for metal substitu- tion where the good hydrolysis resistance of PPS is a plus. RadiciGroup is starting with five Raditeck P
grades, ranging from a 40% glass-fibre reinforced product through to a 65% mixed mineral-glass fibre filled grade. An impact-modified grade is imminent and grades with improved processability and reduced flash are in the development pipeline. “We are also ready to create customised grades too,” Spini said at the show. The introduction of PPS into the RadiciGroup portfolio follows a similar move by DSM – another
